Dear Students:
I am writing with an update about this year’s APRISE study tours. Due to conflicting schedules with our partners in Asia we need to reschedule the study tour to India and Hong Kong, both in terms of its timing and the destination. The updated schedule of study tours is:
- K-12 education in Shanghai and Beijing (May 14-22, 2011) Applications are due by March 4
- Education in Buenos Aires and Santiago (August 6-14, 2011)
- Education in Delhi (August 6-14, 2011)
See below for further details on all three study tours.
We have extended the deadline for applications for the May study tour to China to accommodate student interest. If you would like to participate in that study tour please go to the APRISE website to submit your application by March 4, 2011.
If you have not already done so, check out the new video about our recent study tour to Vietnam and Malaysia. This will give you a great sense of what the study tours entail and the what you can expect to experience. You can also check out the blog that was kept about that study tour.
In terms of further details about the study tour to Delhi in August, this timing will ensure that our partner organizations in India can host us. By focusing the trip on Delhi alone the delegation will have more time to visit a wide range of primary, secondary and higher education organizations. Professor Dominic Brewer and Professor Adrianna Kezar will lead the study tour. In addition to five full days of meetings in Delhi this new schedule will allow for two days of sightseeing: a day-long sightseeing tour of Delhi and a day-trip to the Taj Mahal.
The May study tour to Shanghai and Beijing will proceed as planned. As you know, Professor Pedro Garcia and Professor Gisele Regusa will lead this delegation. Although the focus is on K-12 education, this study tour is very appropriate for any student in the Ed.D. program as we will visit several universities with Education programs similar to our own in addition to the schools and policy organizations on the itinerary. As with all of our study tours, there will also be time for sightseeing which in this case will include the Great Wall outside of Beijing and the Yuyuan Gardens in Shanghai.
The third remaining study tour for this year will go to Buenos Aires and Santiago and will occur in August. Professor Estela Bensimon and Professor Robert Rueda will lead that delegation. Like the study tour to Delhi, this will take a broad look at education across all levels and policy organizations will be included amongst the visits as well. A day of sightseeing in and around each city will round out this study tour.
Now that the Delhi study tour will occur in August, we deffered the previously-planned study tour to Hanoi and Singapore.
Please just let me or my colleague Kathleen Brown (kathlemb@usc.edu) know if you have any questions.
Best wishes,
Mark Power Robison, Ph.D., (213) 821-4420
