My name is Rocke DeMark and I graduated from the Ed.D. Program in 2011 with a focus on Higher Education Administration. The Ed.D. degree was essential in helping me obtain my current position. I am the Associate Director of Student Affairs for the Fully Employed MBA Program at UC Irvine. Not only do I frequently utilize the knowledge gained from the classroom in my role, I also am able to bring a wealth of information from my dissertation to the workplace. Many of my colleagues come to me for advice on anything related to my dissertation topic.
While I do not necessarily miss the dissertation-filled nights and weekends, I genuinely miss the Ed.D. Program. It was a remarkable experience that tested my intellect, motivation, and resolve. My advice to students going through the program is to appreciate every moment of it. While the work may be overwhelming, you will leave the program as an accomplished individual capable of making a difference. You will possess an excellent education as a result of your classroom and dissertation work. Additionally, you will also have built an impressive network of professionals, faculty, and friends. These individuals will support you in whatever endeavors you choose to pursue and will be vital for your future success.
Enjoy the rest of your time in the Ed.D. Program. While you may be jealous of the free time I currently have on evenings and weekends, I am currently reminiscing about being back in the classroom with my Cohort of 2008 LA Weekend classmates. I wish you the best of luck as you work towards the completion of your dissertation and the degree!
